Would You Like to Cheat in The Sims Social?

Players who have reached high enough friendship levels with other Sims in The Sims Social probably know one thing already: you can't date two Sims at the same time, further meaning that you can't cheat in the game: as long as you are in a relationship, you must end the current one first before being able to date somebody else.

Even though some flirty interactions are still available in the game, the relationship status doesn't change so it's not an official cheat. Also, there could be no possible way to make out (or WooHoo) so things are kept to a rather normal level. Here is why, according to Tom Mapham, The Sims Social producer:

"We felt that being able to date 30 other Sims at the same time would lose any connection to real relationships," he says. "So at present Sims can only sustain one romantic relationship at a time. The game is a live service in beta and we will continue to review the design based on player feedback."

So what do you think? Are current ways better, meaning that you like not to be allowed to cheat in The Sims Social, or you'd like more freedom to date and WooHoo with as many Sims as possible ?

The Sims Social Red Square Quest Problem

Some people are reporting a rather strange problem with The Sims Social: a red square appears where the mission should be but it can't be clicked and therefore nobody knows what to do in order to complete that mission - if it is a mission at all!

After doing some research I found out that indeed the Sims Social red square that appears to the left side of the screen is a quest that must be completed but doesn't show properly. However, it does record your progress and if you complete the requirements you can carry on.

So here is what to do to complete the "Red Square" mission:

- Trim a neighbor's Bush/plant/flower
- Collect 5 Goodwill

After doing this, you will get the message that you have completed the mission and the red square will be gone.

Did you have this problem in The Sims Social or you were one of the lucky fellows?

Tip: How to Remove Withered Crops Without Using Energy

Sometimes, it just happens for you not to be able to log in to The Sims Social and therefore you don't get to harvest your crops in time, so the plants wither. Removing them costs energy and you gain nothing from this, but there is a simple trick that's still working and allows you to save energy by removing withered plants without using any energy!

Here is what to do - a method by Sharkyo posted on the official Sims Social forums:

"Just store the plots in storage, then take them out again. Your withered plants will be gone!"

A pretty simple thing to do, but effective. Of course, if you have active neighbor, they might help you unwither the crops, which would be even better since it would give you some Simoleons too!

Cheating in The Sims Social — An Odd Twist to the Social Graph

EA Playfish’s The Sims Social launches on Facebook, but it’s been playable in beta form long enough for people to have formed in-game relationships that challenge traditional social game interactions.
The Sims Social
In The Sims Social, it’s possible for Facebook friends to become neighbors, which is standard for a multiplayer social game experience. Neighbors can visit one another to earn bonus energy and join friends in using whatever devices or activities the friend has purchased for their virtual home. The Sims Social takes it one step further, however, with a social interaction system lifted from the original Sims franchise of games where dialogue trees guide individual Sims along a progression toward friendship, romance, or animosity, with each new “level” of relationship opening up new social interactions.
The Sims Social
The most interesting feature of this relationship system on Facebook is the compulsive need for permission. Because gameplay is asynchronous, EA Playfish has introduced a system of invites that notifies players when their Sim has reached a new possible level of relationship with another Sim. This does not happen at all relationship levels (e.g. Introduction, New Friend, etc.), but rather at crucial levels of interaction where the relationship dynamic changes dramatically (e.g. Dating, Enemies). Once these invites are accepted, new interaction types are available for users to try — or can happen autonomously as a result of “free will” built into the game’s engine.
This presents players with interactions never before available in a social game. For example, you took our Sim to a neighbor’s house and initiated a Flirt. Because your neighbor was already in a Dating relationship with another Facebook friend, the game prompted you to ask that friend to break up with their partner. Though some romantic interactions were still available to you (e.g. Romantic Kiss, Give Flowers), the relationship could not progress until your Facebook friend ended his relationship with the other Sim.
This was the Facebook Message which you can sent in response to The Sims Social invite to leave your romantic partner for your Sim:
The Sims Social
The Author spoke with Tom Mapham, a producer on The Sims Social, to better understand the gameplay systems at work and how this could impact a Facebook user’s social graph. In the traditional Sims games, there were no real obstacles to a player “cheating” on a romantic partner, save for the romantic partner developing jealousy that expressed itself in hostile actions (e.g. kicking over your Sim’s garbage can, slapping your Sim, etc.). Because the romantic partner in The Sims Social is controlled by an actual person, however, this jealousy mechanic doesn’t translate to a social game, and so Mapham says a gameplay choice was made to limit romantic partnerships to one per Sim.
“We felt that being able to date 30 other Sims at the same time would lose any connection to real relationships,” he says. “So at present Sims can only sustain one romantic relationship at a time. The game is a live service in beta and we will continue to review the design based on player feedback.”
At present, the game doesn’t use a player’s social graph beyond the friends list — so there’s no way for The Sims Social to know that your friend indeed is engaged to another The Sims Social player in real life. This gives the player, more or less, total control over how much of their real life they want to replicate or parody in The Sims Social. Though again, Mapham says, the team is open to player feedback on the matter.
As for sexual relationships (here called WooHoo), Mapham explains that Sims must reach a certain relationship level before it becomes a gameplay option, which involves a series of invites to progress to that level.
“Once that relationship level is achieved,” he says, “your Sim can ask another Sim to WooHoo and can even WooHoo autonomously. It does not need another ‘handshake’ from your friend.”

Funny Sims Social: Clones of Your Sims Everywhere

It appears that a very funny glitch has made its way to The Sims Social: more "clones" or copies of your Sim can be seen in the house creating a very funny and maybe a little scary effect. Check out some images below that show you the "outer body experience" in The Sims Social, as some user calls it or simply the clone glitch in Playfish's app:

Did anything like this happen to you too?

How to Get Fury Fast Without Being Rude or Losing Energy

As you probably know already, one of the missions in The Sims Social requires us to collect a ton of Fury and you probably think that the only way that you can get Fury in the game is by being rude and mean with your neighbors. Well, apparently that's not the case and you can easily get more fury without being rude and even without consuming energy!

Here is the really hot tip that was sent this way by Kirsty: "I discovered a way to get fury items (those red devil faces) pretty fast without performing mean interactions and without using energy!

You just need to play the guitar for fun. By chance you will be rewarded a fury item (like you will have one or two fury for sure after playing the guitar 10 times). The only problem is your sim will get bored doing this."

Well, now this is some good news for the social and friendly Sims!

Guide to Personality Types in The Sims Social

In The Sims Social, there are 7 different types of personalities you can choose from and I am sure you're curious to find out more about them. So read on this guide to personalities in The Sims Social!

First of all, it's worth mentioning that Personality Types don't influence that much what happens in the game and usually they're limited to some specific interaction types but that's it. Since there are no jobs in The Sims Social (yet), these don't pay too much of an importance right now, so choose as your heart tells you to!

Here are the Personality Types in The Sims Social and some details about them:

  • Socialite: These Sims Love to be the center of attention! They can Toast with friends and are very fun to be around with!
  • Rocker: Masters of the guitar and great singers - music is a REALLY fun thing for them and they can perform Air Guitar with friends!
  • Romantic: Natural charmers. Falling in love has never been easier!
  • Introvert: Not the most social folks around, they can have the ability to Introspect
  • Tycoon: They care a lot about money. However, no extra detail on this type of personality is available at the moment.
  • Geek: You own your personal laser sword and can even put on laser fights with friends. Better than WooHooing for some!
  • Athelte: These Sims love sports and life's a challenge for them. However, we don't know exactly what specific interactions they have.
  • Creative: They love to paint and that makes them happy. They're creative. They always see the bright side of life.
  • Villain: If you want to be the bad guy (or girl), this is the personality type for you. They somehow find it funny to do bad things and are pretty good at it!
Can I change my personality type in The Sims Social?
Yes, you can change your personality type at any moment, but it costs Sim Cash to do it. Right now, the price is 50 SimCash to change your personality type in the game.

So... what's your personality type? Do you like it?

How to get Muse faster in the Sims Social

You probably know already that Muse is a really important collectible in The Sims Social and it's required for many things in the game, like completing missions and increasing your skill level when it comes to various jobs or even to craft the valuable Inspired Potion. You also know from the Guide to Crafting that you can get Muse by performing Artistic and Music-themed skills in order to collect it.

However, there is a little trick to get Muse faster (or at least increase your chances at getting muse):

When Inspired (attention! you have to be Inspired for this to work!), go ahead and take pictures at birds and hedgehogs in your yard. There is a chance that they will give you one Muse after completing. Unfortunately, this does not work on neighbor yards, but I hope it will help you to get more Muse in Sims Social!

The Sims Social Guide for Traits

The Sims Social brings in the Traits system in the game which allows us to further "specialize" our sim. If you have played the offline versions of the game, it means that you already know what traits are as they are also present in The Sims 3.

However, in The Sims Social, there are just nine traits that we can master by purchasing them with Lifetime points. However, it's worth noting that a Sim can't have more than six traits!
Here is a list of all the traits in The Sims Social and what each one does:
Slob Trait (75 Lifetime points to buy)
The Sims Social
Sims with this trait are not concerned by mess and even thrive in filth. A relatively funny trait that will see your sim use the shower as both a hygiene and toilet booster (yuck!) and can eat from trashcans.
Steel Bladder (50 LT points)
The Sims Social
Helps your Sim feel the need to go to the toilet less often.
Neat (100 LT points)
The Sims Social
Sims with this trait love to keep things clean and do it faster and without needing your help. Also, it is supposed to lengthen the time between objects getting dirty.
SuperMechanic (50 LT points)
The Sims Social
You repair things faster, so if you don't like to wait too much, this could improve the overal speed of your sim.
Insane (75 LT points)
The Sims Social
Pretty good for those who don't have many friends for the game since it reduces the need for your sim to be social. But what's the fun then if you don't interact with friends?
Ogre (100 LT points)
The Sims Social
Probably best suited for those who want to make some enemies too since you can burp and fart at neighbors. However, as a good side, you no longer need to consume energy to clean items
Ninja (150 LT points)
The Sims Social
Pretty nice treat that allows your sim to walk faster, run or even teleport from one place to another. If you want your game to be faster, this is a skill for you!
Great Kisser (150 LT points)
The Sims Social
You're a great kisser and the other sims seem to love this about you! In other words, you can improve your love life faster with this trait
Night Owl (50 LT Points)
The Sims Social
Your Sim requires to sleep less often than others.
And these are the 9 traits available at the moment in The Sims Social. It is very possible that EA and Playdom will release some more in the future, so don't hurry to fill all your trait spots too fast.
It's also worth mentioning that in order to get the most out of a trait, you have to "master" it: each trait has 4 mastery levels and each level costs more Lifetime Points to purchase. So it might take quite a while before you get them all at level 4!
